A Pb-Zn-Ag-Cu-Co-Ni-Cd occurrence/mine located in the NW¼SE¼SE¼ sec. 26, T34N, R2W, 5th. PM, on land of mixed ownership. Discovered in 1960 and first produced in 1969. Formerly owned by Homestake Mining Company and operated by AMAX Lead Company. Owned by the Renco Group, New York, New York (100%) (1995). As of 1995 the mine was operated by the Doe Run Mining Company, Clayton, Missouri. Corporation. Mineral rights holdings include federal lease, fee ownership (minerals only). The USGS MRDS database stated accuracy for this locality is 100 meters.

Mineralization is a polymetallic deposit (Mineral occurrence model information: Model code: 224; USGS model code: 32a; BC deposit profile: E12; Deposit model name: Mississippi Valley, S.E. Missouri Pb-Zn; Mark3 model number: 42), hosted in the shaley Cambrian Bonneterre dolomite. The ore body is 18 meters thick, 140 meters wide and 7,000 meters long, and with a strike and dip of N00E, covering an area of 325 HA. The depth-to-top is 400 meters (minimum of 259 meters). Ore body No. 1 is tabular breccia fill. Ore body No. 2 is disseminated and ore body No. 3 is a replacement body. The primary mode of origin was hydrothermal activity. Primary ore control was lithology and the secondary control was fracturing. Ore breccias are narrow, continuous bodies extending N-S through the 5 mile long property. Individual breccia bodies are up to 300 feet feet wide and up to 85 feet thick, with a trough-shaped base, and outward-dipping, bounding fractures on the sides. Wallrock alteration is moderate (dolomitization, silicification, pyritization). The average thickness of unconsolidated material is 40 meters. Local rocks include the Gasconade Dolomite.

Local geologic structures include the St. Francois igneous high. Regional structures include the Ozark dome. A shale-silt bed overlies much of the Viburnum belt ores.

Workings include underground openings with an overall depth of 418 meters, length of 9,000 meters and a width of 600 meters and comprised of a 1,335 foot shaft at 18 feet in diameter. Ore extraction utilizes the open stope and room and pillar methods. 1975 mill capacity was 4,400 metric tons per day. The smelter capacity was 127,000 metric tons per year Pb metal.

Production was a total of 25,471,423 metric tons of ore during the period 1969 through 1986.

Reserves and resources: Type: In-situ (estimate year = 2008): Total endowment 12,700,000 metric tons of ore @ 8.2 weight percent Pb and 2.2 weight percent Zn. Remarks: Leach, D.L. (USGS) significant PbZn list, based on Rogers and Davis, 1977.
