Type:
A Au-Pt-Ti-Fe-Hg placer mining area along Orofino Creek.
Geologic units near the site: Intrusive rocks: mostly Late Cretaceous granodioritic to granitic plutons of the Idaho batholithic assemblage, but including some Eocene intrusions; northern Idaho and Atlanta batholith.
A primarily placer Au-Pt-Ti-Fe-Hg mining district discovered in 1860 by Captain E. D. Pierce.
