A small lime kiln was erected in the 1870s at Bear Lake, and a pit measuring 15 by 15 by 10 feet deep was put down in the crystalline limestone. A minor amount of lime was produced for local use (OFR5425).

The country rock is a hornblende-biotite gneiss with quartzo-feldspathic banding. A mixture of impure marble and pegmatite occurs within the gneisses.

Pyrite and chalcopyrite, with minor pyrrhotite and magnetite, occurs within the gneisses near the contact with the marble (OFR 5521).
