"At K-Trig, a scoria cone directly overlies the outer wall beds of a phreatomagmatic tuff cone. Tuff beds are poorly exposed along the west side of K-Trig ridge, dipping 12-28° to the east, and quarrying exposes scoria beds 400 m east of K-Trig....... some basalt clasts are oxidised and have ragged, scoriaceous margins; and irregular vesicles within the matrix are often infilled with zeolites. Voids are commonly lined with chabazite and occasionally infilled with fibrous aggregates of natrolite.
Initial volcanism at K-Trig was surtseyan, but during the middle and end of activity at this site, strombolian eruptions occurred. Magmatic heat from the final strombolian phase drove convection of groundwater through the tuff cone, resulting in clast alteration and formation of zeolites within cavities in the tuff." (Brown et al, 1994)
This is the type locality for "K" Trig basalt.
