Moradorf
Many prospects, quarries, and underground mines (all abandoned) for Early Carboniferous (Viséan) roofing shale.
Zálužné (German: Moradorf) is a village, part of the town Vítkov in the district Opava. It is located about 5.5 km northwest of Vitkov.
Zálužné lies in the cadastral area of Nové Těchanovice with an area of 6.56 km².
The Moravice River, which flows through the village, has created a picturesque valley for many centuries, on the sides of which all buildings lie. In addition to a few permanent residents, the village consists of a number of recreational facilities. The character of the Moravian valley was changed by shale mining, but not in a negative sense. Heaps, pits and galleries fit here as part of the landscape and ecosystem and create an inimitable character of the place, typical for the entire slate area of the Low Jeseník and Oderské vrchy.
The ancestors of the American painter Tim Allen of Putney in Vermont once lived and worked in a village whose slate heaps cover a large number of birch trees. The birch trees, of which there are plenty in Vermont, serve as the central motif of Allen's paintings.
There is a chapel in the settlement, as the only building of its kind dedicated to eternal memory to all mining victims of shale mining.
