Charbonnage de Blegny
A coal mine located between Liège and Maastricht which closed in 1980. The mine has been preserved as a museum with Unesco World Heritage status, and includes displays of mining and coal processing equipment on the surface and two underground galleries accessible by the original shaft. These are at the 30 and 60 metre levels below surface.
Coal seams were relatively narrow (e.g. 50-60 cm) and inclined, but were economic as the rank of the coal was high (anthracite).
