Hempels quarry
A former road base / dimension stone quarry adjacent to Kapunda Copper Mine.
The former quarry is located on Lot 19 north of the Kapunda copper mine.
A former quarry opened around 1938 and ceased circa 1958.
A quarry owned by the local council and leased to A. Matthews and worked for road metal. The property was later compulsorily acquired by the South Australian Lands Department and sold to the Hempel brothers earthmoving
(known locally as Hempels quarry). Now abandoned.
The property is adjacent to the Dutton’s open cut, which was the northern section of the overall Kapunda copper deposit. SA mines Dept database.
