Köppen climate type:
The most extensive unit on the island and is a single major structure constructed in 2 stages separated by large Praia Grande flank collapse (Ancochea et al. 2010).
The Lower São Vicente Edifice extends over most of the island and has been divided into 2 formations: the Mindelo Formation and the overlying Monte Cara-Madeiral Formation. The former has a thickness of c. 400 m and consists mainly of pahoehoe flows with some interlayered breccias. The latter forms all the higher summits of the island, is c. 600-700 thick and consists of lava flows with some pyroclastic horizons.
