Affioramento di gneiss del Santuario di Valmala (Cava di gneiss di Valmala), Busca, Provincia di Cuneo, Piemonte, Italia

Outcrop of gneiss near the Sanctuary of Valmala. A small stone quarry was active until the end of the 1970s.

Smoky quartz crystals, up to 8 cm in length, were found in clefts exposed by quarrying. Violet octahedral crystal of fluorite, up to 3-4 cm in size, were occasionally found. Other quartz crystals, sometimes violet in colour, have been recovered from mineralized fissures in the area outside the quarry or loose in the soil.
