Skarðsheiði is a mountain or mountainous area in Hvalfjörður and Skorradal between Borgarfjörður and Hvalfjörður. Its well-known peaks are the steep and pyramidal Skessuhorn, Skarðshyrna and Heiðarhorn, which is the highest peak; 1054 meters. Geoscientists estimate the age of Skarðsheiðar to be up to 5 million years. The shape of the mountain clearly shows that it was shaped by the Ice Age glaciers.
