Larymna is a city that primarily owns its development to the local smelter facilities located at its port and operated by the General Mining and Metallurgical Company S.A. ("LARCO").

Iron-nickel ore is being transferred to the smelter to be processed from LARCO's mines: Agios Ioannis, Nisi, Kopaida, Tsoukka, Votta.

At the time of writing (Apr 2022), LARCO is in a transitional phase where privatization of the company is actively discussed and the future of the smelter and associated mines remain uncertain.
