Muchowskie Wzgórza are built of the Miocene basanite and are part of a former volcano with an alkaline lava cover.
The basanite shows columnar jointing and irregular pseudo-columns up to 2 m in diameter, occurring in the highest part of the hills. Best visible in the excavation of the former quarry under the summit of Mszana, from the south-west.
