Roches moutonnées is a geological term that is rarely used in professional papers regarding Michigan glacial geology. That may be because Michigan is heavily forested and outcrops with unique and meaningful shapes are not easily seen. A Roches moutonnées is similar to a drumlin. It is a mound with an elongated shape that reveals the direction of glacial ice flow except a drumlin consists of glacial till but a Roches moutonnées consists of bed rock.

This outcrop is a flow interior with no amygdules. It is especially interesting because it has some legitimate petroglyphs, some rock art and graffiti that may date back to the mid 1800’s.
