General situation: the sandpit currently in operation is an extension of the vast sandpit located to the west of the access road joining the N 25 to Mont-Saint-Guibert, currently used for the controlled dumping of rubbish. It is dug in the cultivated plateau north of Mont-Saint-Guibert. Tertiary sands from Brussels are extracted there.
Description of the site: This vast sandpit looks like a fairly deep excavation (about 15 m), in intense activity. The oldest slopes (towards the N 25 and the road joining it to Mont-Saint-Guibert), embanked but steep, are partly covered with herbaceous vegetation and willows. To the northeast, the material extracted at the beginning of the operation is accumulated in a slag heap colonized by ordinary plants. The bottom is sandy and practically devoid of vegetation; it includes several basins collecting runoff water. The merlon bordering the road between the N 25 and Mont-Saint-Guibert is grassed and planted with young trees.
