Diamond mining commenced 2015 by the Lucapa Diamond Company in a joint venture with the government. Alluvial, placer and kimberlite deposits mined along a stretch of 50 kilometres on the Cacuilo River.
A 34 gram pink diamond was found July 2022 and named the Lulo Rose.
Note: Google maps position for the mining concession is not correct it is placed west of the river whereas Lucapa state the position is east of the river and much artisan mining occurs in this area.
