Alpe d'Ovarda (incl. Colle del Paschiet versante sud), Lemie, Città metropolitana di Torino (Provincia di Torino), Piemonte, Italia

The upper Vallone d'Ovarda above the Alpe d'Ovarda pasture (see placeholder) is surrounded, from left to right, by Truc d'Ovarda, Torre d'Ovarda, Colle del Paschiet (or Passo Paschiet), and Punta Golai. The area is characterised by the presence of metagabbro, prasinite, serpentinite, chlorite and talc schists. Eclogites locally occur.

The presence of dark red-brown prismatic crystals of rutile in schist near the Alpe d'Ovarda huts was reported by Bonvoisin (1809).

The presence of dodecahedral magnetite crystals and asbestos in serpentinite is reported by Jervis (1873). Furthermore, rodingite bodies are hosted in the serpentinite outcrops in the area Colle del Paschiet - Punta Golai south slope. Here, rodingite minerals (grossular, epidote, clinochlore, etc.) are pratically the same that occur a little further north in Ala Valley, i.e. at Colle del Paschiet (Balme).

Albite, epidote, amphiboles, and prehnite are typically found in prasinites. Thomsonite-Ca on the surface of radiating spherulae of scolecite occasionally occurs in fissures of the coarse-grained prasinite near Colle del Paschiet (Gennaro, 1929). The presence of globular scolecite in these rocks was already mentioned by Borson (1830) and Barelli (1835) as "mésotype". White globular aggregates of pure thomsonite-Ca have been found in recent times (Piccoli et., 2007; Barresi, 2014).

Note: in the first half of 19th century the toponym Ovarda was spelled as Novarda.
