The "old" Algomah Mining Company was organized in 1852 and worked the mine until 1854 when the mine was deemed a failure and closed.
This location is in the SW corner of section 30, T51N, R37E, near the junction of M-38 and M-26 near Greenland, Ontonagon County, Michigan. Information from the 1902 edition of the "The Copper Handbook" by Horace J. Stevens indicates that the Algomah property consisted of "320 acres on Section 30-51 37, in the Bohemian district, Ontonagon county was worked from 1852, with negative results."
Note: this locality should not be confused with the "new" Algomah Mine workings located to the south, which have a different operating period and vastly different mineralogy. Information for this locality can be found here: Algomah Mine, Mass City, Ontonagon County, Michigan, USA
