Inative Fe mine (1941/2-?).
The Odivelas deposit, located 1.5 km northwest of the village of Odivelas, is situated in the parish of Odivelas, municipality of Ferreira do Alentejo, in the district of Beja. It lies 14 km from Ferreira do Alentejo, to which it is connected by a good road. The nearest railway stations are Beja and Cuba, both located 24 km from Ferreira do Alentejo.
In April 1942, a topographic survey of the Odivelas area was completed at a scale of 1:5,000. The survey was carried out by the Geographic and Cadastral Institute on behalf of this service. In defining its boundaries — including the visible mineralized surface — the possibility was considered that the deposit may extend beneath the cover of recent sediments stretching to the northwest. Prior to this survey, only base maps at scales of 1:100,000 and 1:50,000 were available. The area designated for prospecting is the same as that covered by the topographic survey: 800 hectares.
