The intrusion has an elliptical planform, 13 km from north to south and 6 km from east to west. It forms a broad, 200 m high dome-shaped peak surrounded by wadis.
The Khamal intrusion, a large post-collisional mafic complex, is lithologically zoned, bottom to top, from olivine gabbro through gabbronorite, hornblende gabbro, anorthosite, and diorite to quartz diorite.
