Landslip quarry

Outcrop resulting from limestone quarrying activities carried out by John Wainwright & Co from 1902 to 1910. Operations were shut down under pressure of public opposition, concerned about the impact of mining operations on the landmark Cheddar Gorge.

The limestone here is poorly mineralised, and rocks are weathered after a century of exposure to the elements. Some fossils can be identified.

The quarry is managed by the National Trust, and no collecting is permitted.
