A small graphite mining field active in the early 1900's situated mainly on he spurs leading down from the Bopple Range which contains three peaks. The northern most peak was known as Mt. Bopple from which the field gets its name. The graphite deposits are a result of andesitic and syenite intrusions which has lead to the metamorphism of bituminous coal seams. There are a number of mines, the main ones being Bull's workings and Simpsons Shaft.
The explorer Ludwig Leichhardt made sketches of the area when he visited the deposits in August 1843. Benjamin Dunstan, government geologist gives a good account of the field in the Geological Survey of Queensland publication "Graphite in Queensland" in 1906.
Mount Bauple is also a scientific national park designed to protect the area's important scientific value.
