The "Sainte-Suzanne" shaft was sunk around 1880 as a conveyor shaft and was connected to important tunnel systems so that the pit could be well ventilated. In addition, the removal of the mined coal could be guaranteed. Geological faults, however, prevented the coal from being mined regularly. Production ceased in the early 20th century after the "Teyras" mine was commissioned. From 1918 the "Sainte-Suzanne" shaft was only used for ventilation. A few years later, the shaft lost its importance, so that it was shut down and filled in in 1930.
