The workings of this small mine are located on the western side of Talland Bay on the coast between Polperro and Looe.

From Cornish historian A.K. Hamilton-Jenkin:

Prior to 1853, this sett, embracing some 500 acres, had been held for many years by working miners who drove an adit 40 fathoms into the hill and on it commenced a shaft adajacent to the 'graet cross-course'.

From the adit a pile of copper ore was brought out but 'for want of money to buy machinery, they allowed it to be scattered'.

Toward the end of 1853, a company was formed to acquire the property.

Among the lodes mentioned at that time Gavid's was said to be yielding good stones of copper ore, whilst Scarby's or Scorby's was composed of sugary spar, capel and gossan, together with spots of copper and silver lead.

The captain was then awaiting orders to start work on a third lode known as Strasborough's.

It should be noted that in the history of Cornish mining, names of famous mines are often re-used in some or other form to 'enhance' the investment potential of some minor prospects, so finding duplicate mine names is not unusual, sometimes quite widely spread from the original's location.
