The quarry Nieuw Paradijsbergske ("New Little Paradise Mountain Quarry" or Nieuwe quarry ("New quarry") is a marl quarry and geological monument in the Dutch municipality of Valkenburg aan de Geul in South Limburg. The underground quarry is located east of Geulhem in the Bergse Heide slope forest on the northern edge of the Margraten Plateau in the transition to the Geuldal. At the site, the plateau plunges steeply for several meters.
About 30 meters to the east is the Quarry Het Paradijsbergske I and about 90 meters to the west is the Quarry Het Paradijsbergske II.
In 1944, the Germans constructed the tunnel for military purposes.
After the Second World War, the quarry was given a new purpose and a mushroom farm was established there.
The name of the quarry refers to the café Het Paradijs that existed in the area.
The Nieuw Paradijsbergske quarry has a curved corridor with a length of 88 meters. The quarry has an area of 842.86 square meters. The first part of the quarry consists of a stone vault.
The entrance is almost completely closed off, with two bat holes kept open.
The manager of the quarry is Het Limburgs Landschap. In 2017, the quarry was assessed for safety and approved.
The yellow limestone in which this quarry is located belongs to the Maastricht Formation. The limestone wall at the site gives a representative picture of the limestone from this formation, with the Meerssen Limestone in the upper part and the Nekum Limestone in the lower part. Some bioturbation horizons are visible in the wall. Just above the entrance to the tunnel, the Kanne Horizont is clearly visible in the limestone wall. About ten meters above the quarry floor is the clearly visible Caster Horizont, which forms the division between the Nekum Limestone below and the Meerssen Limestone above.
