The Castle Quarry or Quarry under the Ruin is a marl quarry in the Dutch municipality of Valkenburg aan de Geul in South Limburg. The underground quarry is located in Valkenburg at the beginning of the Daalhemerweg under the castle ruins of Valkenburg Castle. The Castle Quarry is located beneath a northern spur of the Heunsberg on the northern edge of the Margraten Plateau in the transition to the Geuldal.
To the southeast is the Wilhelmina quarry, to the south is the Fluweelengrot quarry, to the southwest is the Kerkhofs Quarry and to the northwest is the Gemeentegrot quarry.
In the Middle Ages, various escape corridors were constructed from Valkenburg castle.
In the 18th century and until after 1900, limestone was quarried under the castle by block breakers.
The escape corridors under the castle measure 190 centimeters high and one meter wide. Their total area is approximately 574 square meters, with a corridor length of approximately 116 meters. The mainly 19th century quarry has an area of approximately 3914 square meters and a corridor length of approximately 423 meters.
The Kasteel Quarry has a connection with the Fluweelengrot Quarry.
The manager of the quarry is the Valkenburg Castle Foundation. In 2017, the quarry was assessed for safety and approved.
