Flessenberg quarry
The Fleschenberg Quarry or Flessenberg Quarry is a marl quarry in the Dutch municipality of Valkenburg aan de Geul in South Limburg. The underground quarry is located south of Valkenburg on the Sibbergrubbe on the northeastern edge of the Margraten Plateau in the transition to the Geuldal. At the site, the plateau plunges steeply for several meters.
About 270 meters to the northeast is the Lemmekenskoel quarry,
about 200 meters to the northeast the Nullelokske quarry and about 135 meters to the southwest is the entrance to the Sibber quarry.
From the late Middle Ages until the 20th century, the quarry was mined by block crushers for the extraction of limestone.
The Fleschenberg quarry has a system of tunnels where the limestone has not been systematically extracted. The quarry has an area of 140 by 90 meters. The quarry has an area of approximately 10,364 square meters and a corridor length of approximately 1,521 meters.
The manager of the quarry is a private individual. In 2017, the quarry was assessed for safety and approved.
