Mount Perry Mine

Abandoned copper and gold mine. Discovered 1869, worked from 1870-1910.
The workings were 400m deep, and the lode 2m wide and 1km long.

It should be noted that there are mentions of copper being discovered in 1862 but there appears to be no evidence of this.

Located on the western side of the township.

The mine was said to almost as valuable as the copper mines of Moonta in South Australia. In fact there are several small mines at the former village of Moonta north east of Mount Perry.

The mine started out as a copper mine and when copper values dipped during the recession it became a gold mine.

Other deposits and mines in the area include the Wolca mine and Boolboonda deposits.
