The Nanling-Xuancheng ore district is the eighth ore district in the middle-lower Yangtze metallogenic belt in China. The Nanling-Xuancheng ore district is situated in the southeastern wing of the middle-lower Yangtze metallogenic belt’s northeastern section. Structurally, the Nanling-Xuancheng ore district presents a structural pattern of “two uplifts and two depressions” composed of multi-level thrust-overturned and folds formed by Mesozoic depressions, which has a three-layer structure in the vertical direction (shallower than 10 km). Tectonically, the main faults in the study area trend NW, which intersect with NE-trending and EW-trending faults to form a branching structure from deep to shallow. The fault intersections provide pathways for magma intrusion. The distribution of deep-seated concealed magmatic rocks shows the characteristic pattern of “a primary magma source spawning multiple subsidiary intrusion”.

Hosts magmatic hydrothermal-related Cu–polymetallic mineralization. Most of this district is covered by Quaternary sediments and also contains Silurian to Triassic sedimentary units. A large-scale anticlinal fold and an associated series of SE-dipping faults define the tectonic framework of the Xuancheng ore district. The intrusions (dominantly diorite and granodiorite compositions) in the Xuancheng ore district are predominantly located within this folded tectonic zone and are associated with numerous skarn-type Cu–polymetallic deposits. The Chating deposit (porphyry Cu–Au deposit) is the only deposit located to date that was covered by Quaternary units and it contains mineralization related to a concealed porphyritic quartz diorite intrusion. The mineralization-related intrusions in the Xuancheng ore district were generally emplaced between 140 and 130 Ma.
