Köppen climate type:
Situated NW of Indiana Station.
The Coggan Bore area is part of the Ambalindum pastoral station. The Indiana homestead is about 15 kilometres south-east near the western border of this station. Coggan Bore is probably named after a mica miner who was active in the Harts Range area in the 1940's, and 50's. The location itself is a bore and cattle yards only.
Access to Coggan Bore is difficult. The easy explanation is you will probably at the time of writing come across no entry signs from the Ambalindum Station, within a relatively short distance after leaving the Plenty Highway.
The longer explanation is as follows. Immediately after crossing the Entire Creek on the Plenty Highway, head south along a track for 22.6 kilometres to Inkamulla Well. From the well take the track east, and after about 15 kilometres take the right fork heading south. Huckitta Well is 31.4 kilometres along this track from Inkamulla Well, the scenery hillier than before. About half-way to the well things become difficult with various tracks from this point branching off, some heading off into the wilds beyond, and others eventually re-joining the main track.
The first could be a fence line by its straightness, and will eventually re-
join, but take the main track diverging south south-west. The second track heads east, and also eventually re-joins the main track. Continue instead on the main track south south-west. About 4 kilometres further on the main branch of the Huckitta Creek needs crossing (boggy?).The well itself is 100 metres upstream on a side track. (Station wells/bores are not a guaranteed source of water during emergencies, as they often remain on maps long after becoming derelict).
After the creek, the track turns sharply east, and after a short distance sharply south again. After another short creek crossing, some cattle yards are reached. Ignore the track heading east, and south-west. What appears to be a prospectors camp, or outstation is a few hundred metres south south-east of the cattle yards. Continue on the track from the cattle yards south-south-east for 3.7 kilometres to Coggan Bore, crossing another creek just before.
Immediately around Coggan Bore are a number of diverging tracks. One to the west goes to Mount George and the Carrara mines. One a few kilometres south of the bore heads east to the Indiana homestead. Others follow fence lines, or to prospects. Expect to get lost.
