Schieferberg

Břidličný vrch (former Schieferberg) is one of the most famous locations of the České středohoří (former Böhmisches Mittelgebirge) located SW of Dolní Zálezly (former Salesl). The location is a rock fall between the Liščy hory (Fuchsberg) and Mlynářův kámen (Müllerstein), two view points at Dubický hory (358 m). The remnants of this rock fall are still visible from Církvice across the Labe (Elbe) In this rock fall of thephrite a quarry operated from about the last third of the 19th century to most likely 1938. During the quarry operation many vugs lined with acicular natrolite of white to reddish colour in vugs of 5 to 10 cm, sometimes up to 30 cm have been found. Coru (1903) mentions that this occurrence was discovered in the early 19th century by the city physician Dr. Scholz of Aussig (Usti nad Labem). The first printed note about Salesl is from Eichler (1823).
Specimens of this location are very characteristic and often without any rock matrix and can be found in many older museums collections. The natrolite forms often (epitaxial) intergrowths with mesolite. A detailed description of the mineralogy of this location is given by Hibsch et al. (1917) and a modern one by Dvorak et al. (2017).

Other minerals found are Thomsonite, Analcime, Phillipsite, Gismondine (very rare and as first occurrence in Czechia), a single find of Gmelinite and also calcite and aragonite (Dvorak et al. ,2017).

The quarry was later used as municipal waste pit and is now backfilled.
