Giant copper(-gold-silver) deposit.
The Tiegelongnan deposit is the largest copper(-gold-silver) deposit within the Duolong district, with resources of 2089 Mt grading at 0.53 % Cu, and 0.08 g/t Au. It is characterized by high-sulfidation epithermal Cu (Au) mineralization associated with advanced argillic (alunite-kaolinite-dickite) alteration, overprinting a deeper porphyry Cu deposit associated with phyllic (muscovite-quartz-pyrite) and potassic (biotite) alteration. The shallow epithermal deposit consists of two pulses of hydrothermal events at ∼116 and ∼112 Ma from alunite 40Ar-39Ar geochronology, after an older porphyry deposit formed at ∼120 Ma from biotite and muscovite 40Ar-39Ar geochronology. Several pulses of granodiorite porphyry dikes intruded in the Jurassic sandstone between 121 and 116 Ma.

This deposit exhibits a spatially superimposed relationship between porphyry-style and high-sulfidation epithermal-style alteration-mineralization, making it the first documented porphyry-high sulfidation epithermal Cu-(Au) deposit in Tibet (2.09 Gt @ 0.53 % Cu and 280 Mt @ 0.13 g/t Au; i.e. metal content of 10.98 Mt Cu and 37 t Au). Hydrothermal alteration is of two types: (1) alteration linked to the porphyry domain, generating alteration minerals like biotite, quartz, sericite, illite, and chlorite in deep and distal environments, and (2) alteration associated with the shallow high-sulfidation epithermal domain, characterized by alunite, pyrophyllite, and other clay minerals. Mineralization is hosted both within the feldspar-quartz sandstone (J1-2s) and the granodioritic porphyry.
