This deposit was originally discovered in 1960 by Team 518, Ministry of Metallurgical Industry. Currently, proven Fe ore reserves exceeds 51 Mt with an average grade of 48.5 wt%. The intrusive rocks in the ore district are distributed largely to NW and dominated by Yanshanian diorite, with minor diorite porphyry dikes. The Henghui Fe skarn deposit contains 5 ore bodies, which are all unexposed and occur at between 24 and 340 m below the present surface as revealed by drill holes. Among these, No. I and No. V ore bodies are the largest. No. I orebody presents as banded and lenticular morphology and is 865 m long, with 750 m in width, and locally extends to 64 m in thickness. It trends largely to NNW-SSE and dip to the NE at an angle of 16°-29°. It accounts for 81.3 % of the ore reserves, at an average grade of 46.88 wt% Fe. No. V orebody is situated above the No. I orebody and displays lenticular morphology. It is 490 m long, with width of 270 m, and thickness ranging from 1 to 63 m, and trend largely to NW-SE, with dip to NE at an angle of 14° to 32°. It accounts for 17.4 % of the total ore reserves, with an averaging grade of 48.76 wt% Fe.
