The geology of the area comprises paragneisses of the Usagaran system that forms part of the Mozambique belt. The mineralized rock units are exposed in the artisanal mines located in pits 1, 2, and. The bulk of the sulfide mineralization is hosted by the plagioclase amphibolite. The mineralization is expressed as massive and net-textured chalcopyrite ores. Features include high Cu grades (up to 3.07 wt %) and Cu/Ni ratios (over 100) from the disseminated and massive ores in the plagioclase amphibolite.

The Archean basement granitoids of the Tanzania craton underlie most parts of northern and central Tanzania. The mineralized rock units are exposed in the artisanal mines located in pits 1, 2, and 3. The bulk of the sulfide mineralization is hosted by the plagioclase amphibolite. The mineralization is expressed as massive and net-textured chalcopyrite ores. Locally, the chalcopyrite ores exhibit brittle deformation textures. The plagioclase amphibolite locally contains quartz veins associated with a bornite-rich sulfide assemblage. These bornite-rich sulfide ores are crosscut by a series of covellite and chalcocite veinlets in contrast with the chalcopyrite-rich counterpart. In the hornblende gneiss, the mineralization is present as disseminated ores.
