Tauerntunnel, Anlauftal, Gasteiner Tal, Hohe Tauern, Salzburg, Österreich

Mineralized clefts cut during the construction of the tunnel on the Bad Gastein-Mallnitz line, joining the Gastein valley to the Seebach valley in Carinthia. The entrance is located on the southwestern side of the lower Anlauf valley.
The ca. 8 km long Tauern railway tunnel connects Böckstein (Salzburg) and Mallnitz (Carinthia) and was originally built from 1901-1909, by the construction company Redlich & Berger; later, during several years around 2000, it was enlarged.

Note: not to be confused with the A10 Highway tunnel (Tauern tunnel), a road tunnel.
