Byrapura chromite deposit; Byrapur Mine

An underground mine.

In Byrapur area chromite-bearing uitramafic intrusive occurs in the Archeans of Peninsular India. The ultramafic rocks are altered primarily to serpentinite, serpentine-talc-chlorite schist; the grade of metamorphism increases from greenschist to amphibolite facies along this belt (cf. Ramakrishnan 1981). The chromitite bodies occur commonly as layers, high angle bands and in tabular or lensoid form.
