Kwatha-Khudengthabi section of Indo-Myanmar Orogenic Belt (IMOB). The NNE-SSW striking Manipur ophiolite is a narrow belt, extending ~200 km in length and ~2-20 km in width. The principal rock types consist are abyssal peridotite (harzburgite-lherzolite), podiform chromite ore, ultramafic-mafic cumulates (peridotites-pyroxenites-gabbro), mafic volcanic rocks (pillow basalt), minor plagiogranite and oceanic pelagic sediments, etc. The Pre-Mesozoic metamorphic rock is considered to be the oldest group of rocks and consists of low to medium-grade phyllitic schist, quartz-mica schist, garnet mica-schist, biotite-graphite schist, quartzite, granite gneiss, glaucophane, and jadeite bearing high-pressure assemblages. The Disang Group is mainly demarcated by black to dark grey splintery shales, intercalated with siltstone and sandstone and underlain by coarse, massive gritty and well-bedded sandstone of the Barail Group. The occurrence of peridotite has undergone a high degree of serpentinization and partially or completely altered to serpentinite.
