Near the Kato Moni village there is an exposure of one of the very best sections of submarine volcanism. The section exposes pillow lavas in tectonic contact with sheet flows, set in a matrix of volcanic breccia and hyaloclasite, which is composed of clasts of volcanic glass. The sheet flow unit is cut by a sill with characteristic sharp chilled margins at top and bottom.
