Manganese ores have been mined in this mine since the beginning of the 16th century (1525). Mining was carried out from two tunnels and one shaft.
The pit belonged to the Royal Monastery Chamber in Hanover. From 1870, the hotelier Julius Meese from Hanover operated the mine until it was closed in 1890.
In 1916 the mine was reopened under the name "llfeld's Mangan". On June 30, 1922, the last shift in IIfeld ore mining took place here.
