The Jidong gold belt is a significant concentration of Au deposits in China. The quartz-vein type is the main kind of Au deposit in this belt. The Jidong gold belt is situated on the northern edge of the North China Craton, within the composite zone of the North China Craton, Siberian Craton, and Pacific plate. During the Paleozoic to Mesozoic, it underwent diverse tectonic events, including collision, orogeny, post-orogenic extension with the Siberian Craton, and subduction by the Pacific plate.
The belt experienced complex tectonic evolution from the Paleozoic to Mesozoic. Initially, interactions between the paleo-Asian ocean and the North China Craton led to the formation of the near EW-oriented Malanyu metamorphic core complex and the NW-trending detachment faults on both sides. Later, the subduction and collision of the Pacific plate with the North China Craton superimposed a NE-oriented structural system. The Triassic-Jurassic NE–NW structural-magmatic intrusion systems controlled the distribution of Au deposits across the region. Intermediate to felsic intrusions such as granodiorite and biotite granites are the most closely related to Au mineralization.
The Jidong gold belt contains approximately 200 Au deposits and prospects. Large and medium-sized Au deposits such as Jinchangyu, Yuerya, Xiayingfang, Tangzhangzi, Piandaogou, and Houlonggou are distributed on the north side of the Malanyu metamorphic core complex. The southwest side of the western end of the belt hosts deposits such as Zhueryu, Chedaoyu, Huanghuashan, Longfusi, and Dongshan, but no large or medium-sized Au deposits have been discovered in this particular area because of insufficient study.
