Köppen climate type:
The area is covered by seawater (10–20 m depth) and Quaternary sediments (35–40 m). Bedrock consists of Archean metamorphic rocks and Late Jurassic granitoids that were intruded by Early Cretaceous granodiorite and lamprophyres. The gold mineralization belt has a full length of >3 km and slanting depth of >1.7 km, controlled by the Sanshandao − Cangshang Fault. Ore bodies occurred at the fault’s transitional portions from steep to flat and can be divided into shallow (above − 600 m) and deep (below −1000) groups, with dip angles changing from 25–50° to 35–40°. The No. 4 ore body is trending NE and dipping SE, with a length of 1450 m, an extension of 1070 m, a thickness of 31 m and a gold grade of ∼5 g/t. Four stages of mineralization-alteration can be determined in this deposit: 1) pyrite-quartz-sericite stage, 2) gold quartz-pyrite-arsenopyrite stage, 3) gold-quartz-polymetallic sulfide stage, and 4) quartz-carbonate stage.
The deposit contains 45 individual ore bodies distributed along prospecting lines 20–42 and 50–66, displaying predominantly vein-type and veinlet-disseminated mineralization styles. The I-4–3 ore body, accounting for 45 % of the total gold resources (average 8.66 g/t), stands as the largest mineralization zone. This economically significant body occurs within a pyrite-quartz-sericite breccia zone, extending 1430 m along a 35° trend with southeast dips ranging from 22° to 52°. Another notable ore body, I-1, contains 4.2 % of the total resources (average grade: 2.85 g/t), stretching 1097 m with variable strikes (22–43°) and southeast dips between 23° and 62°.
