Since early 2024, some new dioptase specimens were brought to market as being from "Kapata". There is no further information available, so it is very likely that the locality is in fact an old locality, but that the artisanal diggers gave it that name to hide the real locality.

The dioptase crystals, almost always etched, sit on a quartz-rich matrix and doesn't fit at all the other DRC locality, Tantara. There is even a possibility that the specimens are NOT from the DRC but from Congo. Like the Imilchil prehnites, the specimens could have been sold at Kapata, hence the name. Another possibility is that they come from the individual mines of Kamilombe, an artisanal mine from native diggers, just up North-West of Kapata.
Under investigation!

The coordinates mark the center of the Kapata suburb, near Kolwezi, but are in no way a guarantee that the specimens came from there.

It is possible that this locality will be deleted or merged when the true locality of the specimens is revealed.
