Johann Anton-Unterbaustollen
The Johann Anton aAdit was a tunnel situated within the Burgstall area, at an altitude of 960 meter above sea level. Situated closely to Gallzein, it was far outside the regular mining area.
Originally, the adit was opened for mining operations by the Schwaz mining association in 1855. After 960 meters of digging they reached an ore-free zone of Schwaz dolomite. Subsequently, the mine was abandoned in 1874.
The tunnel was also connected to the Paulus Tunnel, the Trebach Tunnel, the Sag Tunnel and the Michl im Bach Tunnel through overpassages.
The entrance of the tunnel was last visited by me (Pieter Bron) in 2025. Nowadays, a metal door is placed in the entrance and locked to prevent unauthorized access. Next to it, there seems to be a small overgrown dump. However, given that the tunnel only reached an ore-free zone of Schwazer dolomite, there is a high probability that no minerals such as malachite, azurite, chrysocolla etc. are found like in other areas of the Ringenwechsel.
The only minerals of note that were found in 2025 are some nice and clear calcite specimen (see photos).
