An iron mine with a rich history, originally opened in 1828 and most recently owned by the Sidermex Group. In 1984, it produced approximately 443,000 tons of concentrate.

The mine is located in the northern part of the city of Durango and is best known among collectors for its exceptional yellow fluorapatite crystals.

The iron mineralization formed through subaerial volcanic processes.

For a Spanish locality that produced somewhat similar, though typically smaller, crystals, see the Nuestra Señora del Carmen Mines.
