This is the classic locality discovered about 1880 by Lucien Andrews and brought to the attention of Edgar Andrews, who first dug into the locality. Many finds have been made, the most famous time period being in the mid-1950s to early 1960s, when large but medium- to low-quality crystal clusters over 1 meter were found.

The transparent amethyst from this locality has been widely in demand for faceting, and most stones show characteristic rhythmic zonation of colorless and amethyst color. Crystals almost always have amethyst on the terminations and a cloudy to slightly milky quartz prism. Many small prospect pits, most ephemeral and soon reburied, have been dug in this small district.

The Deer Hill amethyst locality is a granitic pegmatite located on the southeastern side of the hill.

The area is known for amethyst, feldspars, beryl, garnet, columbite, pyrite, and muscovite.

Prospects/mines include the Deer Hill Mine, Nevel Mine (Nevel prospect), Eastman Ledge Mine, Intergalactic Mine (Eastman Ledge Mine extension), and Kimball Mine.

Coordinates are for Deer Hill.
