Other/historical names associated with this locality:
Tummalapalle U mine; Tummalapalle Mine
An underground uranium mine - operated by Uranium Corporation of India Ltd. (2025).
The mine is located approximately 12 km south of the village of Pulivendla.
Sulfide hosted invisible gold occurrences within the Vempalle dolostone, south-western part of the Cuddapah Basin, in and around Tummalapalle area. Various sulfide phases i.e. pyrite, arsenian pyrite, and chalcopyrite were observed in the Vempalle dolostone. The study area lies within the Vempalle Formation, situated along the south-western periphery of the Cuddapah basin. It comprises an unmetamorphosed to mildly metamorphosed, sedimentary sequence, ∼ 1500 m thick, overlying the profound Eparchean unconformity.
Dolostone hosted Tummalapalle uranium deposits within the Vempalle Formation of the Papaghni Group and host more than 1 lakh tonne of ore reserve with an average grade of 0.045 % of U3O8.
