Site 1 begins with a hard, light crystalline limestone bed approximately 1.2 m thick, exhibiting calcite veins and affected by bioturbation at the base. Above this limestone, the contact transitions sharply to a breccia bed with dark chert fragments embedded in a phosphate matrix. The breccia is overlain conformably by a thick phosphorite bed, which initiates with a hard base containing dark chert extraclasts and medium-sized invertebrate bones. This phosphorite bed grades upward into a softer top, where caves have formed.
