Other/historical names associated with this locality:
Hohbühl
Outcrop of a metamorphic ophiolite of presumably Mesozoic age.
"A massive fine-grained bluish-black rock, showing epidote patches, magnetite octahedrons and fine amphibole crystals, and cut by an albite vein containing black amphibole needles of about 4 cm length and not exceeding 1 mm in diameter." (van der Plas and Hügi, 1961).
Note on the (zoned) "ferrian sodium-amphibole" described by van der Plas and Hügi (1961): The formula given, (Ca1.16Na1.00K0.05)2.21 (Al0.49 Fe3+0.91 Fe2+1.28 Mg2.25Mn0.03Ti0.03)5.02 (OH, F)2 (Si7.16Al0.84)8 O22, places this amphibole between magnesio-hastingsite and ferri-winchite according to the current nomenclature.
Note: Coordinates are based on the description in van der Plas and Hügi (1961): "W of the Hohbühl, coord. 732,6—160,4, alt. 2400 m."
