November 2024 saw the discovery of the 42nd mineralised pocket in the Diana Maria mine.
In Douglas Adams’ The Hitchhiker’s Guide to the Galaxy, 42 is famously the answer to the “Ultimate Question of Life, the Universe, and Everything.” The majesty of this pocket exemplifies all that the number 42 has come to represent, and so it was officially named Pocket 42.
Located roughly 35 metres east of the Greedy Hog and Hidden Forest pockets, Pocket 42 exhibits characteristics of both. The fluorite crystals, a uniformly grassy emerald green, are of exceptional quality – remarkably transparent and often gem-grade.
They typically average 1 cm on edge but can be larger. Certain zones of the pocket are also rich in fascinating silver-grey, truncated octahedral galena crystals.
