Köppen climate type:
The exposed strata in the Potoumian deposit primarily consist of the Upper Devonian Maozifeng Formation and Tianziling Formation. The Maozifeng Formation is dominated by sandstone and shale, and the Tianziling Formation is mainly composed of limestone, dolomitic limestone, and marl, with the latter serving as the principal host rock for mineralization. he Fe–Cu orebodies occur predominantly as stratoid or lenses within calc-silicate hornfels, skarn, and skarnized limestone proximal to the contact zone between medium-to fine-grained granodiorite and the carbonate rocks of the Tianziling Formation. The No. 1 orebody, the largest in the deposit, extends for 1050 m in length, averages 20 m in thickness, and reaches a maximum depth of 180 m. It is followed by the No. 4 orebody, which measures 350 m in length, averages 16 m in thickness, and extends to a depth of 120 m. Both orebodies generally strike NE and dip SE at angles of 58–64°.
The mineralization evolved through four distinct stages: prograde skarn, retrograde skarn, quartz-sulfide, and carbonate. The mineralization sequence commenced with an early prograde skarn stage, characterized by garnet and pyroxene formation. This was overprinted by a retrograde assemblage of chlorite, epidote, actinolite, vesuvianite, and magnetite.
