Squaw Creek, Big Indian Creek
A locality where celestine crystals in quartz geodes and dolomite vugs were collected. According to Trump (1964), the locality was along (at that time) [Big] Indian Creek west of the farmhouse of Logan Emerson, who charged a small fee to collect. The coordinates are based on the map in Trump (1964), note that north is to the right on that map.
The geodes are in a specific limestone layer 18 inches thick "down four feet from the top of the Permian and directly on top of the first chert layer". The geodes are typically about 2 inches in diameter, rarely up to 4 inches.
"About a hundred yards east of this spot, the celestite occurs with purple or amethystine quartz and fluorite."
The creek was renamed by the Gage County Board, from Squaw Creek, in 2001 (Omaha World Herald, Jan. 28, 2001).
